Verizon’s Big Purchase

Verizon closed out the month with a huge announcement, a $4.8 billion deal for Yahoo’s Internet business. The purchase gives Verizon ownership of Yahoo’s consumer services, including email and news as well as the social platform Tumblr. This power play positions Verizon to compete with Google and Facebook as a digital content titan. Facebook Takes Flight

Facebook’s Aquila took flight for the first time in July, capping off years of anticipation and testing. The ambitious project has a lofty goal, to provide Internet access to billions of people worldwide who would otherwise be disconnected. The solar powered airplane would travel to the far reaches of the earth, and eventually travel in fleets. Tests will continue over the next year but the fact remains, Facebook is one step closer to world domination!
