As I’ve written about again and again, us loti love food here at our integrated marketing headquarters. As for me, I love all the worst best foods: grilled cheese and bacon, Chinese food, disco fries… bring it on! But alas, the perpetual, daily 2 p.m. craving of a nap on the cocoa puff always catches me.
Still, I do quite well running on caffeine and passion. I could tell you I always feel more energized if I have mini meals every two hours, but I’m a big believer in practicing what you preach (in which case, behold the power of cheese!) Let’s see what a real nutritionist has to say about firing up those gears for a long day at the office.
Fueling a Marketing Savage
Besides caffeine, what’ll get you gassed up to go? Well, apparently salmon is a great choice, but I’m going to go with no… Here’s my food picks to help you stay sharp and think clearly (thanks to nutritionist Barbara Mendez).
- Blueberries: “These berries contain flavonoids—antioxidants that have been shown to help improve your ability to learn and enhance motor skills. Flavonoids also help prevent degenerative brain diseases such as Alzheimer’s and dementia. Add a cup to your morning oatmeal or to a smoothie. Or simply keep them on hand for a quick and healthy afternoon snack.”
- Eggs: “Eggs are a great source of choline, a necessary building block for the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which helps you concentrate and recall information. Studies have shown that people with Alzheimer’s have depleted amounts of this important neurotransmitter.”
- Chocolate: (HOORAY!): “This treat is rich in flavanol antioxidants that increase blood flow to the brain, helping to protect brain cells. But the percentage of cacao is important–the darker the chocolate, the better. Enjoy a small square of dark chocolate after lunch for an afternoon boost.”
