Social Media Updates

YouTube Announces Weekly Ad Frequency Capping, New Live-Stream Commerce Upgrades

As part of YouTube’s Brandcast presentation for Upfront week, the platform announced weekly frequency capping for video ads and live-stream shopping upgrades. Ad frequency capping will allow marketers to limit the number of times a single user views their ad in a week. This is great for companies to spend their money more efficiently and great for viewers who don’t want to view the same ad multiple times a day. Additionally, YouTube will offer live-stream shopping. Two channels will be able to go live and cohost in a single stream where viewers can also be redirected to a brand’s channel. This could be a great new way for brands to utilize influencer marketing.

‘Twitter Circle’ Is Here

At the beginning of the month, Twitter announced a new feature called “Twitter Circle” which allows users to tweet to a smaller, preselected, group of followers. This allows for a more personal and intimate experience on the platform since not all tweets are meant for all followers, like a private story on Instagram. Users do, however, need to keep in mind that even though these tweets cannot be reposted by other users, they can be downloaded, captured, images can be reshared and screenshotted.

TikTok Will Launch the First Stage of its LIVE Subscriptions Program This Week

TikTok launched LIVE subscriptions on May 26 with selected creators. This avenue will keep creators on the app while earning them revenue, instead of turning to other platforms such as YouTube or Instagram. Subscribers will also receive benefits by supporting their favorite creators. They will receive subscriber badges, custom emotes (created by the creator), and access to a subscriber-only chat which enhances that personal connection with creators they love. LIVE Subscriptions will be open to all creators in the coming months.

Reddit Launches New Program to Nurture Audio Talent in the App

Back in April, Reddit enabled selected users to host audio group chats within their communities to increase engagement and connection. Now the app is pushing this new audio feature by offering a new Host Program. The program invites regular Reddit Talk hosts to apply by offering them rewards such as, their talks being promoted to relevant audiences in the app and promoted on Reddit’s own social accounts, Reddit swag, and access to the Reddit Talks community, where they can engage with other hosts. The program seeks out interesting hosts to boost the new audio feature while offering these benefits.

TikTok Announces New WooCommerce Plugin to Power More Shopping Options

TikTok has announced a new WooCommerce extension for merchants. This update allows brands who use WooCommerce, an open-source ecommerce platform built on WordPress, to sync their catalog with their TikTok profile. This also lets brands create ads for TikTok straight from their WooCommerce dashboard. This opens the door for more selling opportunities on TikTok as they already have a similar feature for those who use Shopify.
