It’s October and for most that means you’re finally settling into “back to school” mode.
With every crisp fall, companies are entertaining us with their new marketing and social media campaigns. Then of course, there are the classics that we can never forget.
We’d like to welcome you to a new kind of series here on The lotus Position. This is our first edition of Our Favorite Picks: Back to School.
Social Media Campaigns
Manager of Business Development, Jessica Guida:
American Apparel’s Halloween Campaign has really revived the pumpkin season. The California-based company has devoted a page of their online store promoting clothes and accessories towards fashionable costume ideas.
The innovative brand did more than just promote the campaign on their website. Their very own Halloween parade launched on the American Apparel Instagram. They held a costume contest which really got their customers to engage.
The #AAHalloween hashtag was created for fans to become eligible for three grand prizes.
- 1st place: $500 gift card
- 2nd place: $300 gift card
- 3rd place: $150 gift card

Back to School Marketing Campaigns
Assistant Account Executive, Erin Cunningham:
This classic Staples’ commercial from 1996 shows that when it’s time to go back to school it truly is “the most wonderful time of the year” (for parents). Staples should bring this gem back every September. No matter when I see this commercial, I burst into laughter.

Account Executive, Nicole Cobuzio:
Who wouldn’t want to head out to Missouri after seeing and laughing at this rhythm? Commercials that are intended to be comically bad, can be, if not better than those with funny aspirations.

Senior Account Executive, Beth Gard:
Old Navy takes us by surprise with this campaign. Ms. Amy Poehler heads a class spelling bee where “everyone’s a winner.”

Assistant Account Executive, Kara Hunt:
Staples’ ‘Fancy’ parody of Iggy Azalea will have you laughing out loud for days. They clearly “already know” how to capture their audience when it’s back to school.
